Cutting the bottom will If you plan to use real candles inside the pumpkin, cut the top or poke holes in the top so the smoke can relsease. If you are using battery-operated candles or lights inside your pumpkin, then cutting a hole in the bottom is fine. Of course, if you are not comfortable with tools and cutting, some good ole paint will look great too! You can use a pairing knife and ice cream scooper along with a rotary tool that makes shading so much easier.
